Thank you, thank you, THANK you to everyone who helped with this year's At-Home Conference. It's the first time I've opened it up to everyone, and your response overwhelmed me. I know we had some glitches here and there - I appreciate everyone's patience!
Special thank yous go out to those of you who donated books (don't forget Jeannie - she donated late), to our teachers, Camille Gabel (my blog master), and Tiffany Colter (the Writing Career Coach and our university hostess). Please support all of these wonderful people!
Technically the conference is over, but Tiffany has agreed to keep the classes up for a while (so don't worry if you missed anything!).
Please either leave a comment of shoot me an email to let me know your thoughts on the conference. What did you like? What didn't you like? Suggestions for next year?
Thanks!

TECHNICAL DIFFICULTY!
Happy Sunday!
I know this is supposed to be the last day of the conference, but...there's been a slight internet connectivity problem, and the rest of the classes have not yet been posted at Writing Career Coach. We're working hard to fix the issue, but might have to wait for assistance (which won't come until Monday).
Though the delay will extend the length of the conference, it won't effect what you can view now. Also, we're planning on leaving the lessons up for a while anyway (so people who had their own technical difficulties this weekend will still be able to enjoy them).
As always, thanks for your patience!

GIVEAWAY: Heather Young
Courtesy of David C. Marx, leave a comment (with an email address) to get registered for a chance to win a copy of Heather Young:
She was dumped partially clothed by her abusive father in an alley in San Antonio, Texas. She is discovered there by a gang whose leader phones James Oliver Young, interim pastor of Geneva Presbyterian Church. Jim and his wife, Diane, drive into the city to meet with the gang. Jim and Diane take Heather to the ER at Northside Hospital.
Heather makes known her desire to spend the night with Jim and Diane rather than be turned over to Child Protective Services. Her stay with the Young family is extended into weeks. Adoption papers are filed by Jim and Diane.
Cynthia Young and Peter Young, both Naval Officers home on leave, accept her as a sibling immediately. Living in the Young home enables Heather to internalize an identity as a Young long before the adoption makes it official.
Heather develops a sense of self worth and self esteem. Her influence on the Young family and others is as profound as their influence on her. She emerges as a “larger than life” individual with powerful attributes and talents.

GIVEAWAY: Novel by Diana Brandmeyer
Courtesy of Diana Brandmeyer, leave a comment (with an email address) to get registered for a chance to win a copy of one of Diana's books! Honestly - I'm not sure which one (for all of my careful planning, a few things slipped through the cracks). In the meantime, here's a bit about Diana:
I am a lover of Christ, my husband, my sons and their wives.
I like to read, sew, ride bikes and play with digital photography creating scrapbook pages.
I am terrified of mice--dead or alive.
My favorite color is Blue.
I adore animals and now have two cats, Oliver and Wendell.
My favorite book and author changes all the time. I do have two all time favorites, Harriet the Spy and Little Women. Both of them sent me on my writing path. Harriet taught me how to record the world around me and Jo taught me to persevere.
I believe there is only one God and one Savior.
I believe everyone has a gift and they need to be encouraged to use that gift.
I believe that God does bring good from the bad things that happen to us.
My dream for the future is to follow my husband in his dream. He would like to travel the country in a motor home and work with Laborers for Christ building churches and schools. Sounds like fun doesn't it?

Classes are Up!! (Thank You, Tiffany Colter!)
First of all, a GIGANTIC thank you to Tiffany Colter, the Writing Career Coach. Her generosity has made it possible for us to make this conference available to everyone without publicly posting the lessons - and in just a couple of days!!! Please make sure to thank her.
Here's what you need to do:
1. Go to www.writingcareercoach.net.
2. In the upper right corner, click on 'Click Here/Join Now'.
3. You'll need to sign up for access - you will be able to get to the classes by selecting the FREE SOCIAL MEDIA MEMBER option (but if you'd like to purchase a different membership that will not be discouraged).
4. You're in! You're now at the Writing Career Coach message board. Across the top you will see some options: Home - Business - University - Mail - Email - Account. Click UNIVERSITY.
5. Scroll down the page until you see ACFW At Home Conference 2011.
That's us!
Before you click to get started, there are a few things to note. Here's a quick message from Tiff:
"I have things figured out. The only problem I have is you MUST take the classes in order right now, and once you take them you cannot go back**. I'm trying to fix that. REMINDER: Click "Join Now" and sign up as the FREE Social Media Member. That is the lowest level that gives access to the courses. It is FREE and they can unsubscribe after the University. That is just how the login works.
Spread the word and invite friends [if you want]. My system can accommodate thousands of people on this, so we won't crash it. It will give exposure to the teachers, too." -Tiff Colter
I've visited the site and found the classes very easily. I'm not gonna lie though - I'm not a computer whiz, so I'm not sure where/how toe leave comments. In case there are others like me, I'm going to put a post HERE every day for each class - that way you can leave comments and questions for each other and/or the instructor. And if you know how to comment at Tiff's site, please share!
I think that's it for now. Please let me know if you have any questions. You can leave a comment here (I get updates in my email when people comment, so I'm sure to notice it).
Here's to a great conference!
**Please note - not all of the classes are posted yet (still waiting to receive a few lessons from people). We'll get those up ASAP.

We're Moving! Sort of...
It's official - the At-Home Conference is too big for a private Blogger blog. Instead of trying to create another blog this week, a generous ACFW member has volunteered to let us use her online classroom for the classes! There's more to come on that later - I don't want to give any faulty information until everything is in place, but I wanted to let you know that the conference is still on, the blog is still here, and the generosity of ACFW members continues to amaze me.
While we wait for details on the classes, why not get to know each other? I'll get started.
My name is Karin. I'm a full time accounting assistant and part time writer. I've been freelancing for a while now, but it's taking longer than I'd like (I'm not a good self motivator). I write contemporary romantic comedies and am currently unpublished. I made it to the ACFW Conference last year, but couldn't go this year. The At-Home Conference is my way to have something to look forward to while everyone else on the loop shares their excitement about the regular conference.
Who's next?

Possible move...
Wow - I can't believe the response I've gotten about this blog! I'm now officially over the 100 person limit set by Blogger and there are still people contacting me about wanting to attend.
In an attempt to open this up to as many people as possible (while still protecting the work of the presenters), we may already be moving! Someone has generously volunteered to host the conference on her website in an on-line class room setting. If it works, then I'll go ahead and open this blog to the public and put a link on here for people to find the classes.
It may add a couple of extra steps, but I think this will allow us to include more people without going completely public.
Thanks for your patience as we figure this out!

Substitution
Hello, again!
Just want to let you know that we're making a last minute substitution. Our friend Jaime Wright Sundsmo will not be able to teach this year. She's recently had a situation come up that will require her time and attention. Please remember to keep Jaime and her family in your prayers.
I told Jaime not to worry about cancelling because I know what a great group of people we have in ACFW. This morning I put out a call for some subs, and I got 'em! Joining Team Teacher are Suzanne Hartmann and Christina Rich. There may even be a couple of other people stepping up to help out - it's so exciting!
If you haven't noticed yet, at the top of the blog is a Bios tab. Click there to get the full biographies of our volunteer teachers (I'm posting them as they come in, so they aren't all there yet). As of this very moment, here's the class list for the 2011 At-Home Conference:

Who Are We?
I can take the credit for creating the At-Home Conference, but it wouldn't work without the time and talents of all of the people who volunteer to share their knowledge and present lessons. This year we have another great series of classes and a fabulous group of volunteer teachers. Their bios will be going up on the blog soon. In the meantime, here's the list of this year's instructors:
Click on a name and get to know your instructors a little bit better. Feel free to leave any questions or comments for them at any time during the conference.
See you again soon!
